Admittedly, inclusion of certain family members or friends might appear to hinder the process, but allowing the parties to involve even difficult people usually works better than leaving them out. In the latter situation, the sponsoring party may feel aggrieved and the person excluded may snipe from the sidelines--undercutting the progress made during mediation.
