This stratagem can backfire, however. 1n one instance, an officer in a patrol car stopped a civilian for speeding on a motorcycle. It turned out that the officer, too, rode a motorcycle for pleasure. My stressing their mutual interest, however, only served to incite the officer to lecture the complainant — as an "expert" — on the use and abuse of these vehicles!
